Let’s watch a movie together…and talk about it!

Join us for our first public movie discussion since… well, since the pre-COVID before-times!

First, we decide what movie to watch. Each of our crew has proposed a candidate, but the decision is in your hands. Vote for the movie that YOU would like to watch!

The poll closes and the winning movie will be announced on Wednesday, April 21.

Discussion of that movie will take place via Zoom on Wednesday, April 28, from 7:30-8:30 PM.

This poll is no longer accepting votes

Vote for the movie you'd like to watch!

If you need help with your choice, each of our crew has made an argument for the movie they picked:

The Art of Self Defense

USA | 2018 | 104 minutes | English | Riley Stearns | Rated R

Soo says: “The Karate Kid + Fight Club + a sprinkle of Wes Anderson = The Art of Self-Defense. A dark comedy about exploring what it means to be a ‘man’ in a world of toxic masculinity delivered in punches that are both hilarious and creepy.”

The Art of Self Defense is available for streaming on Hulu.

Booksmart

USA | 2018 | 102 minutes | English | Olivia Wilde | Rated R

Clayton says: “Booksmart is a…well, smart new take on the high school buddy comedy. It alternates between the refreshingly fresh and the rewardingly familiar (paying homage to forebears like The Breakfast Club and Superbad), and is straight up one of the funniest movies I’ve ever seen.”

Booksmart is available for streaming on Hulu.

Mr. Holmes

United Kingdom | 2015 | 104 minutes | English | Bill Condon | Rated PG

Morgan says: “Mr. Holmes follows a retired Sherlock Holmes as he attempts to recount his final case before his memory truly fails him. This adaptation adds a new layer of depth to a beloved literary character; anyone who is a fan of character-driven stories would enjoy this film.”

Mr. Holmes is available for streaming on Kanopy (accessible for free with your library card!).

My Octopus Teacher

USA | 2020 | 85 minutes | English | Pippa Ehrlich, James Reed | Not Rated

Rachel says: “What if you entered a foreign world and then returned there every day for a year, always coming back to the same place? In the quiet documentary My Octopus Teacher, a South African filmmaker befriends an octopus over the course of a year, learning the language of the ocean and experiencing the healing power of nature.”

My Octopus Teacher is available for streaming on Netflix.
